My fondest memories as a child involve the smell of baking – the sweet intoxicating aroma of freshly baked dough and sweets emerging from the local bakeries in Puerto Rico. At a young age I was introduced to the art of pastry by my father, a modern day Renaissance man and professional photographer.  I can still remember waiting for him to come home after each wedding he shot with slice of the wedding cake he saved just for me.

In my early twenties, after working under a French pastry Chef my husband Daniel and I took over a small French bakery based in Texas. While the hours were long,  the joy of owning a bakery and of smelling dough fresh out of oven daily was indescribable. Although we sold that first bakery after the birth of my first child, I knew someday I would open the bakery of my dreams. Fast forward to 25 years later, with two beautiful grown children and a pastry school diploma, my dream is becoming a reality.

I’ve spent the past few years perfecting countless recipes and gathering inspiration from bakeries around the world. As a resident for the past 20 years, I am beyond exited to open De Azúcar in Oviedo, FL this January 2013.

Have a sweet day!
